Clicker Training is a fun way to spend time training any pet. We have a full range of clicker training books and equipment for sale, and will happily give advice on getting started with the basics. All our clickers come with an instruction card to get you started, and many of
our kits come with a free lanyard or wristband to keep your training hands free. Remember clicker training is fun - you must ignore the bad behaviours, and praise the good. Find a way to turn negative behaviours into positive ones without shouting or punishing your pet. Here's an example:
Your new puppy is jumping up all the time. What starts as a cute behaviour from a cute puppy can escalate into a scary behaviour from a fully grown dog. Instead of picking up and cuddling your puppy when he starts jumping up you could easily train your puppy to sit when
someone comes into a room. When the puppy receives lots of praise for this behaviour it becomes a habit that he enjoys. He will quickly learn that sitting gets him the attention that he wants. He will soon forget the jumping behaviour, as it elicites no response from anyone. You can then
cut back the time you spend praising him, or only praise him every other time that he does it. That jumping habit can be reprogrammed quickly with the clicker training technique, and is much more easily cured in a puppy, when it is a new behaviour, then in a
grown dog, when it has become a learned behaviour.
